Ha Ji-won is one of South Korea's most sought-after actresses. She's known for her brilliant performances in a variety of genres, from action films (including martial arts), to comedies, dramas, and sports. While women in distress are often considered weak and vulnerable, the Korean star is one of the few actresses who confidently defies stereotypes. Ha Ji-won was born Jung Hae-rim on June 28, 1978, in Seoul, South Korea. Her parents raised two daughters and a younger son, also an actor. From childhood, she dreamed of becoming a part of the film industry. When Ha Ji-won was in high school, a talent agency spotted her photo in a photo studio and offered her a contract. She discussed the offer with her mother and accepted. According to her contract, the aspiring actress required a theater background, and she enrolled at Dankook University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television (BFTV). However, Ji-won's television debut proved challenging.
