Einstürzende Neubauten Teil (2/2): Monitoring und Backline der legendären Formation
Part 1: • Einstürzende Neubauten (Teil 1/2): Licht u... Turbine, Bassfeder, "Blue Bin," Aircake, and meters of PVC pipes joined together: Anyone working with Einstürzende Neubauten first has to learn the names of a whole world of self-developed instruments. At the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2026 at the Agra grounds in Leipzig, Markus Wilmsmann talks with monitor engineer Marco Paschke and backliner Matze Vogel about the special requirements behind and on stage. Matze Vogel explains why a piece of metal that looks like scrap to outsiders can't simply be replaced. Each of these instruments has a specific sound and requires a suitable method of recording. Pickups or classic microphones are frequently used—even in places for which they weren't originally designed. Among the most striking instruments is the Turbine, which weighs several hundred kilograms and, despite its martial appearance, can sound like a rotating metal xylophone. Marco Paschke explains how the signals are distributed between the monitor and front-of-house consoles, why the band works almost exclusively with wedges, and why his direct communication with the musicians is a crucial part of their performance. He also tells the story of a canister that, after being rescued from the trash, was given its own seat on the plane. A look at a production where seemingly useless junk becomes an irreplaceable instrument—and decades of experience ensure that every one of these sounds can be reliably reproduced. A glimpse into a production where what was once considered junk becomes an irreplaceable instrument—and decades of experience ensure that every single one of these sounds can be reliably reproduced. #Einstürzende Neubauten #WaveGotikTreffen #Monitoring #Backline #LiveSound #EventTechnology #mothergrid --------- Follow us on LinkedIn: / mothergrid Instagram: / mothergrid.de Facebook: / mothergrid #eventtechnology #mothergrid #frontofhouse #stagetechnology #eventtechnology © mothergrid 2026
