The video is raw because the landscape is raw. We set out to explore San Agustín with @juanbehotas. Two towns a few kilometers from Balcarce that share the same silence: San Agustín and Mechongué, in the heart of the Buenos Aires pampas. The San Agustín train station stopped operating in the nineties, when they dismantled the railway network and left half the country without a connection. The sign still says SAN AGUSTÍN. The tracks are still there. The ticket office is closed, the platforms empty, the building with that strange dignity of something that was once important and that no one bothered to demolish. As if the trains were going to return. We explored the place with the camera in hand and voiceovers. No script, no editing, no faces. Just what remains when something stops working but never truly disappears. On the way out, we stopped in Mechongué, in front of a general store. Cut grass, shutters up, three pumps that stopped dispensing gasoline decades ago. Everything frozen in 1960, yet not broken. I don't know if it's open or closed. I didn't ask. It seemed to me the answer wouldn't change anything. The video is raw because the landscape is raw. Raw is what remains. No filter can do justice to a place like this.
