Tarn Hut. An accessible alpine experience.
In our 22nd trip together, Daisy and I spend a night in winter conditions at Tarn Hut. Our tip for this trip is to do some pre trip planning so your adventure is more enjoyable, especially in winter conditions. This hut is located in the Puketeraki Forest Conservation Area, with access across private farmland for the first half. Seasonal restrictions means the track to the hut is closed between 1 August and 30 September and the entire month of April. This little hut is a popular place, especially around the weekend. Take some backup shelter if the 4 bunks have already been claimed, or push on to the larger Youngman Stream Hut making a neat loop around Lilburne Hill. https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-rec... https://planmywalk.nz/huts/tarn-hut https://www.wildernessmag.co.nz/trip/...
