A FERRANDINA SI ACCENDE LA SCINTILLA DEL RISORGIMENTO LUCANO

"Ferrandina 1860 – The Spark of the Lucanian Risorgimento" is the title of the historical reenactment that brought the town to life on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in front of the churchyard of San Domenico. The project, produced by the Municipality of Ferrandina and organized by the Ferrandina Pro Loco, with artistic coordination by Giuseppe Ranoia, commemorates the uprising of July 16, 1860, when the square erupted with cries of "Long Live Italy! Long Live Garibaldi!" and the city joined the Lucanian uprising led by Giacinto Albini and Nicola Mignogna. The Ferrandina event boasts, among other things, membership in the MIC National Fund. The performance venues include the Church of San Domenico, Piazza Plebiscito, and the squares, alleys, and tunnels of the historic center. The procession of the Madonna del Carmine, the dramatic heart of the opera, merges with the insurrection in an emotional crescendo that unites the sacred and the civil "without ever opposing them." A live band, sound effects, fireworks, and spectacular displays punctuate the emotional passages of the narrative, culminating in the departure of the Ferrandina column toward Potenza, led—according to the chronicles—by the very young monks Leonardo Montemurro and Francesco Lategana, "the soul of the people on the move." The project also highlights the figures of the Ferrandina patriots Carmine Sivilla, the De Leonardis brothers, Gaspare Laudati, Nicola Petruccelli, and other protagonists of an uprising that united twelve towns in Lucania under the leadership of the Corleto Perticara Committee. The reenactment involves Actors, extras, local associations, and citizens of all ages are called upon to participate as extras and cap throwers in a great collective ritual that restores the community's shared history.
