In addition to his rigorous and riveting pianistic technique that has seen him travel the world as a concert artist in solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire, he has also been one of the world's most respected and beloved conductors for over 50 years, taking up prestigious long-term posts with the Berlin State Opera, La Scala, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre de Paris—among others—and founding the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, which brings together musicians from Israel, Palestine, and other Middle Eastern countries. The Buenos Aires-born Barenboim turns 80 in 2022.
