This is Part 1 of the trip, covering the first leg of the drive, how we packed the truck, our road trip tech setup, our charging plan, and the charging problems we ran into along the way. The Hummer EV is huge, comfortable, and honestly a pretty awesome family road trip vehicle in a lot of ways. But EV road trips are still very dependent on charging reliability, software, route planning, and having backup options when things do not go as planned. Tesla Superchargers worked really well for us on this trip. The issues we ran into were with non-Tesla fast charging sessions, including IONNA stops in Kansas/Missouri and a Mercedes-Benz Charging stop in Georgia. This video is just my real-world experience with this truck, this route, and these specific charging sessions. We also show the real family side of the trip: packing the Hummer EV, keeping the kids entertained, using Starlink in the truck, charging while traveling with little kids, and figuring out whether an EV road trip to Disney is actually practical.
