In this video, I discuss a very dangerous situation I had a few days ago while using a Subea Easybreath 900 full-face mask from Decathlon in the sea in Marsa Alam, Egypt, for the first time. I emphasize that I followed the instructions in the manual, available materials, and the recommendations of a store employee for the period of August 2023. The situation I discuss in the video, which happened to me and not only me, is VERY DANGEROUS. I describe the situation delicately in the video because I didn't want to overdramatize it, but after sharing the video and considering the matter further, I decided that this is a very dangerous product that shouldn't behave this way, as it could lead to death and a serious accident in the sea or pool. There's nothing more tragic in the water than being unable to draw air... The problem with the valve in the Subea EasyBreath 900 mask's snorkel becoming clogged frequently occurred during very gentle snorkeling, without large waves or diving, or when submerging the mask underwater. In my opinion, the mask has a valve designed to shut off the air supply, because it closes the air supply dry, even with slight head movements during very gentle breathing and snorkeling in calm seas. This situation should never happen without diving, effectively cutting off the air supply. This means you can't take a breath at all. To do this, you have to exhaust the air from your lungs, which you don't have after exhaling. After returning from vacation (Egypt), I filed a serious complaint with Decathlon Polska, demanding they discontinue further sales, verify the product, and amend the user manual to include important information. First, I tested the mask in a shallow pool to prevent valve clogging. This way, no one in the sea would have the same problem my wife and I had. These were two new products, different sizes, and the same problems: calm snorkeling, sudden valve clogging, and emergency mask removal and swimming to the jetty ladder. It's good that the lifeguard on the jetty saw the situation and immediately threw us a life buoy that we could grab onto. I've been swimming with a mask and snorkel for many years, including those with a stop valve, and I even scuba dived, as you can see in the vacation videos on this channel. I wouldn't wish the experience I had with this product on anyone. It was very bad and dangerous. Decathlon referred a specialist to my complaint, who contacted me several times by phone and email. International consultations with Decathlon's French headquarters followed, discussing what to do. Ultimately, they decided not to remove the mask from sale, but, in accordance with my recommendations, the instruction manual will be significantly updated (this happened in September 2023), including a focus on pool testing before entering the sea and what to do if the valve becomes clogged while snorkeling. In my opinion, this workaround puts customers' lives at risk, as such a faulty valve will eventually result in someone else having the same problem, which could end tragically. We managed to cope because we were very close to the pier and a lifeguard helped, but it could have been very bad. With a clear conscience and hand on heart, I do not recommend anyone use the SUBEA EASYBREATH 900 FULL FACE MASK for snorkeling and underwater diving if you value your life and health. For your information, during the exchange of information with the woman handling my complaint, I learned something that was previously not available anywhere in the materials available to customers: the valve in this mask is different and does not have micro-holes that allow a minimal airflow in an emergency, as is the case with the 500/540 models, etc. Someone might think this is the way it's supposed to be, but after consulting with them, I know it shouldn't be. The valve clogging completely dry (as I showed in the video) or with slight movements during regular snorkeling poses a real threat to the user's life. This should never happen, where a full-face mask prevents you from taking a breath without diving or submerging the mask underwater. Additionally, while snorkeling at a leisurely pace, I noticed my heart rate and breathing rate increase despite minimal movement... If you must use this product, swim with a buoy next to you or in a vest, just in case, and master it well in a shallow pool!
