Дорожное безумие под видом безопасности
Every year, pedestrian crossings become brighter and brighter—now they look like Christmas trees with projectors. But they're not getting any safer. -------- My lectures "City for People": https://fienta.com/ru/o/36474?utm_sou... Urban tour with me in Georgia: http://urbantour.ge/?utm_source=youtu... -------- Crossing the street remains the most dangerous place in the city: in Russia, about half of pedestrian accidents occur on zebra crossings, and such accidents account for up to a quarter of all accidents. Against this backdrop, cities are beginning to implement projected pedestrian crossings en masse—a flashy and expensive solution marketed as innovative. However, projected zebra crossings don't improve safety, and sometimes even worsen it by concealing pedestrians and creating a false sense of security. Arkady Gershman explains how crossing safety really works: visibility triangles, speed reduction, safety islands, and proper lighting that highlights pedestrians rather than markings. He examines street design errors, traffic accident statistics, and the systemic reasons why cities choose flashy but ineffective measures. This in-depth analysis of urban planning and road safety reveals which solutions truly save lives and why they have yet to become the norm in Russian cities. Simply put, I'm an urbanist with an unhealthy love of transportation. I'm not an architect, so I won't talk about the choice of materials or different architectural styles, but I will talk about proper urban planning policies, how to lay out a tram, what a street should look like, and how to create a park without drug addicts and alcoholics. -------- Timecodes: 00:00 Crossings are dangerous, but... 02:03 Projection — now in GOST 04:01 Dangerous safety 06:07 Road paradoxes + preview 08:00 The magic of good engineers 10:03 Saving drivers from jail 12:08 The secret of good crossings 13:54 Projections make things worse 16:01 A false sense of security 16:58 Simulating vigorous activity 18:21 Our goal: 0 accidents
