“Tribes” is one of my best-known integrated percussive tunes. It first appeared in my 1994 instructional video The Guitar Of Preston Reed: Expanding The Realm Of Acoustic Playing. The following year it was released on my album Metal. In the intro to the video — filmed by Andrew Jurman in 1995 at Milestones in Rochester NY — I explain my concept of starting a solo acoustic guitar composition with a drum groove…and then adding the guitar into it.
