Native to South America, the giant snail, averaging 4 cm in length, is larger than native snails. First introduced for food in 1983, it has been widely used as an eco-friendly agricultural tool as an alternative to herbicides since the early 1990s, when its habit of grazing on rice paddy weeds became known. It primarily inhabits wetlands, rice paddies, lower reaches of rivers, aquatic plants, and mud. It feeds by scraping and crawls. It lays eggs in the summer, and hatches approximately one week later. A single female lays an average of 4,300 eggs per year. It becomes fertile after 50-60 days. The giant snail has been listed as one of the world's 100 most harmful invasive alien species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The Ministry of Environment considers the widespread giant snail, which poses a threat to the ecosystem, to be a threat. #GiantSnail
