Konya Ovası'nda Korkutan Görüntüler! Dev Yarıklar Yerleşim Yerlerini Tehdit Ediyor
Kilometers long surface cracks that formed in some rural neighborhoods in Çumra and Karapınar districts of Konya in previous years are worrying local residents. Surface cracks observed by Konya Technical University (KTÜN) Geology Engineering Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Yaşar Eren and his team in their research on sinkhole formations in the Konya Plain within the scope of the "AFAD Sinkhole Project" are increasing their impact day by day. The cracks that formed due to the decrease in groundwater levels also threaten settlements in some rural neighborhoods of Çumra and Karapınar. Prof. Dr. Eren made evaluations to AA correspondent regarding the cracks seen in the Hotamış Lake basin that dried up in Çumra's Adakale Neighborhood. Eren, who stated that one of the important problems of the Central and Western Anatolian basins is the surface deformation that develops due to ground subsidence caused by the falling groundwater level, said: "As the groundwater level decreases, the sediments in the plain create deformations on the surface in the form of different compressions, surface cracks and faulting. We are monitoring the surface cracks along a 7-kilometer zone in Adakale Neighborhood of Çumra district. In the measurements we made in 2020, it seems that the vertical subsidence of approximately 1 meter along the surface faulting has now accelerated a little more. The rate of subsidence has increased a little more. The annual subsidence rate of surface faulting and cracks that have occurred since 2008 was around 8.5 centimeters. It has increased a little more this year. This was revealed in our observations in the cemetery." "CENTRAL AND WESTERN ANATOLIAN BASINS ARE LITERALLY COLLAPSING" Eren, who explained that these cracks are frequently seen in the southeastern region of the Konya Closed Basin, said, "We encounter these surface deformations in the Hotamış region, Karapınar Siyeklik and Seyit Hacı regions. Similarly, Central and Western Anatolian basins such as Tuzlukçu, Akşehir, Aksaray, Karaman, Niğde, Bolvadin, Manisa, Aydın are literally collapsing due to the lowering of the groundwater level today." Prof. Dr. Eren pointed out that the collapses in the nearby cemetery of Adakale Neighborhood have increased visibly and said, "There was not this much vertical throw in the cemetery in a year, it seems to have increased a lot. The bones in the cemetery have come to light. It passes just west of the settlement. It threatens settlements and highways in other regions. Its linear structures cause deformation in electricity poles and damage structures in settlements." Adakale Headman Gürsel Algül said that the cracks in the neighborhood formed years ago. Algül, who stated that the cracks posed a great danger in the years they first formed, said, "Sheep fell here and got lost. It starts 5 kilometers away, there are still cave-ins in the old cemetery area, the soil has settled on the ground. There are cave-ins 1.5-2 meters deep. This scares us. There are still active cave-ins. Animals that fall into deep cracks cannot get out, they die inside. It's like 'the ground cracked and fell in', the cracks are very big. In a place where water used to come out from 1 meter, it doesn't come out even from 200 meters." SURFACE FAULT SPLIT THE MOSQUE WALL IN TWO A collapse caused damage to the northern wall of a mosque in Siyeklik Yaylası on the Karapınar-Emirgazi highway. The imam of the mosque, which was demolished because it posed a risk despite all the repairs, Aşır Yetişir, stated that the mosque was demolished in recent months and a new one was built in a safe place. Yetişir stated that the giant cracks caused a collapse of approximately 50 centimeters on both sides of the mosque garden, and said, "The cracks extend to the road. The opening is visibly progressing with each passing day." Subscribe to DÜNYA Newspaper Youtube channel 👇 🌐https://www.youtube.com/c/dunyagazete...
