Kebakaran TPA Jatiwaringin Meluas, Status Tanggap Darurat Resmi Ditetapkan

TANGERANG, KOMPAS.TV – Efforts to extinguish the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Tangerang Regency, Banten, are still hampered by strong winds and difficult access to hotspots. The Tangerang Regency Government has declared an emergency response status for the fire that broke out at the Jatiwaringin Landfill on Thursday (July 2, 2026). As of Wednesday evening, the fire at the Jatiwaringin Landfill continued to spread. The fire was still burning piles of trash in several locations, while thick smoke continued to billow and blanket the landfill area. Firefighters continued to battle to prevent the fire from spreading. On Wednesday afternoon, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) deployed a water-bombing helicopter to expedite the extinguishing process. The large number of hotspots, strong winds, and difficult access were the main obstacles on the ground. The Tangerang Regency Government has also declared an emergency response status for the fire. The Head of the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that affected residents had been evacuated to the village office. The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI) is responding to the fire at the Jatiwaringin Landfill. WALHI stated that extinguishing efforts require covering gaps in the flames with earth fills. Meanwhile, the thick smoke that continues to billow has begun to make it difficult for local residents to breathe. Entering its third day, the fire is still burning at the Jatiwaringin Landfill. Based on Kompas TV's field observations, white smoke can still be seen billowing.
