He sold his harvests through farmers markets, CSA buyer clubs, and local restaurants, all while proving that profitable, small-scale farming can be both simple and beautiful. In Maine, Jim’s system evolved into the Grass-Fed Market Garden, where he uses fresh-cut grasses as his primary planting bed material — a living mulch that feeds soil biology, retains moisture, and eliminates tilling. His method mimics natural pasture cycles, building nutrient-dense soil while reducing inputs to nearly zero. Jim’s philosophy goes far beyond farming.
