Still using ChatGPT to do your Spanish homework? Think again

As a Spanish language teacher, very often I watch my beginner students produce fancy essays that I couldn’t have written at their level. I mean advanced vocabulary, the subjunctive tense in A1, connectors I've never taught them. But you wanna know what happens when I ask them a simple question about the same? They struggle to answer - even in very basic structures. And I know exactly what's happened. Because I've felt it happen to me too. In the year 2022, when I was a B2-level student, I too felt tempted to pawn off my Spanish essays and HW to ChatGPT. Now, 4 years later, as a Spanish language teacher and an interpreter who works for presidential delegations and foreign ministries - here’s the brutal truth I learnt: if AI is still learning your work for you, it’s doing you harm in ways you don’t even realise.
