Vampiric Judo, Apex Predators, Desublimation, Foucault, Lacan, Marcuse and... SoloRPGs (Part I)

This is part one of a 2 part video I am doing attempting to better articulate the role of solo role-playing in my life. I have hesitated to make this video because I felt like there was too much scaffolding under the core argument and if the core arguments stood on its own it just wasn't enough so I decided that maybe I was just over exaggerating it in my mind. After working on the video for about six days I can tell you that I was not over exaggerating it, hence why this is part one of a two part video I discuss Peter Watts’ Crucifix Glitch in Echopraxia (  / 25515264   ) and Blindsight (   / 48484.blindsight  , Michel Foucault’s theories of power, Lacan and Symbolic Castration, and briefly about Herbert Marcuse’s repressive desublimation. All of this stops just short of my introduction to what I see as being the most interesting modern philosophy in this moment from Byung-Chul Han, and part two will lead off with his critique of optimization and the loss of empathic otherness in society. All of this is my best attempt to explain why rolling dice, scribbling numbers with a pencil and occasionally saying “oh hell yeah…sorry goblin BIATCHES” under my breath (i.e. soloRPG-ing) made me feel freer then I ever felt in a world of supposedly free choices and indulgences.
