A journey through time | The OLDEST CULTURE on earth
Kowanyama, home to 3 aboriginal clans, Kokoberra, Kunjen and Kokomenjena means place of many waters and after spending some quality time here with the locals it was clear why. The waterways, fresh and salt, are spectacular and the wildlife to go with it is abundant. The people of Kowanyama are still very connected to their country and their culture which is beautiful to witness. We were welcomed in like family, given access to some beautiful country and invited into what will be one of, if not the best exhibition of Cape Yorks indigenous artefacts in Australia. We also do some fishing and exploring in this episode up and down the Gulf Of Carpentaria chasing barramundi. We get a couple but its a tough day fishing! Make sure you stop into Kowanyama on your next trip, give yourself a couple of hours to wander around the cultural centre / museum across from the service station and tell Viv I sent you in there.
