A Hall sensor is a semiconductor wafer carrying an electric current and placed in a magnetic field. The Hall effect works as follows: if a wafer carrying an electric current is placed in a magnetic field so that the magnetic field lines intersect the wafer perpendicularly, a potential difference—a voltage—will arise at the edges of the wafer, also known as the Hall voltage. It should be noted that most common Hall sensors respond to a relatively strong magnetic field, which can be a permanent magnet, such as a neodymium magnet. Hall sensors can be unipolar, bipolar, with or without a latch, with an analog output, or with a digital output. Since electric current generates a magnetic field, measuring its magnitude can indirectly measure the current. Current clamps are used to perform such measurements. These clamps consist of a magnetic core into which the Hall sensor is installed. The magnetic core is designed as an open-loop design, allowing current to be measured without breaking the electrical circuit. By installing a magnet on a bar and securing it to the motor shaft, you can use a Hall sensor to determine the motor shaft speed and then build a tachometer, odometer, etc., or automate any process. #HallSensor #Magnet #ElectronicsClub
