FANTASMAS de EDIMBURGO | HISTORIA de los ESPÍRITUS y lugares más terroríficos de Edimburgo (ESCOCIA)
Edinburgh is the city with the most ghosts in Scotland; and in this video documentary with English subtitles I will tell you the story behind the most terrifying spirits that, according to legends, roam the streets of the Scottish capital. Do you want to meet the ghosts of Edinburgh? Among the most emblematic points of the city is Edinburgh Castle, located on an extinct volcano in the center of the capital. Although other fortresses previously stood on this place, the building that can be visited today was built in the 12th century and has witnessed numerous historical conflicts and wars, such as the Jacobite uprising of 1745. If you go, there you can visit, for example , the Royal Palace, where the Crown Jewels and the Stone of Scone (or Stone of Destiny) are located, or the famous Una en Punto Canyon - one of the most visited by tourists because every day, when they give One in the afternoon, he fires a salvo. But my favorite place in this fortress is the prison. As soon as I entered that prison, it was very easy for me to imagine, although I am rather skeptical about supernatural matters, that those walls could be the home of innumerable ghosts from other times. One of those prisoners, desperate to escape, hid in a wheelbarrow full to the top of manure because he believed that his jailers would remove the waste through the front doors, and, once there, he could regain his long-awaited freedom. However, he ended up losing his life, because the guards took the dung cart to the west side of the fortress to ... empty it down the slope. And the top is at a height of 80 meters! According to legend, his ghost hovers around the place trying to push tourists who dare to walk near those same battlements. You can tell if the ghost is in the vicinity because it is accompanied by an intense and unpleasant odor of excrement. Another of the corners of Scotland that most caught my attention is the Greyfriars cemetery, the most central in the city and also the most visited. There is buried George Mackenzie, a lawyer, essayist and writer. As Lord Advocate (what comes to be a kind of attorney general), he led the persecutory policy of the monarch Charles II against the Presbyterian Covenanters. The king had deprived the Covenanters of the right to freely practice their religion, and, in retaliation, they had participated in the attempt to overthrow the monarch. In June 1679 they were completely defeated at the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, but, as they refused to pledge allegiance to Charles II, George Mackenzie arrested about 1,200 and transferred them to Edinburgh. Since there was not room for that many people in the city jails, what they did was create a provisional prison right next to Greyfriars Cemetery. Some of the inmates were deported, others executed and there were also many who died as a result of the brutal treatment that the authorities gave them. All the deceased were buried in the same cemetery. Coincidentally, when Mackenzie died, he was buried in a mausoleum in ... guess where, right? Greyfriars Cemetery. Yes, a few meters away from their victims. And the souls of all lived together in peace until, in 1998, that is, centuries after all of them were alive, a beggar opened the door of the mausoleum where the remains of Mackenzie rested to take shelter from the rain and the cold temperatures of the evening. And that triggered the spirit of the prosecutor to appear to him. Thank you for visiting my channel.
