Ein Spaziergang durch die historische Innenstadt von Maastricht im Süden der Niederlande mit den schönsten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Begleite uns bei unserer Erkundung der Innenstadt zu Fuß. Wir waren noch nie in Maastricht und lassen einfach alles auf uns zukommen. Über einige Highlights habe ich vorher einiges gelesen und so wusste ich, was wir nicht verpassen dürfen. Sie ist die Hauptstadt und größte Stadt der Provinz Limburg. Maastricht liegt an beiden Seiten der Maas, an der Mündung der Jeker. Sie grenzt an die belgische Grenze. Maastricht entwickelte sich von einer römischen Siedlung (Trajectum ad Mosam) zu einem mittelalterlichen religiösen Zentrum. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde sie zur Garnisonsstadt und im 19. Jahrhundert zu einer frühindustriellen Stadt. Heute ist die Stadt ein florierendes kulturelles und regionales Zentrum. Bekannt wurde sie durch den Vertrag von Maastricht und als Geburtsort des Euro. Maastricht verfügt über 1677 Gebäude des nationalen Kulturerbes (Rijksmonumenten), die zweithöchste Zahl in den Niederlanden nach Amsterdam. Die Stadt wird von Touristen zum Einkaufen und zur Erholung besucht und hat eine große internationale Studentenbevölkerung. Maastricht ist Mitglied des Netzwerks der ältesten Städte Europas und Teil der Euregio Maas-Rhein, zu der auch die nahegelegenen deutschen und belgischen Städte Aachen, Eupen, Hasselt, Lüttich und Tongeren gehören. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Limburg. Maastricht lies on both banks of the Meuse River, at the mouth of the Jeker River. It borders the Belgian border. Maastricht developed from a Roman settlement (Trajectum ad Mosam) into a medieval religious center. In the 16th century, it became a garrison town and in the 19th century, an early industrial city.
