After being plundered and converted to agricultural use, the abbey was donated to the municipality of Apiro and restored, becoming a cultural and tourist center. Abbey of Sant'Urbano History: Founded around the year 1000, the abbey was a center of religious and civil power, subjugating itself to the municipality of Jesi in the 13th century after several clashes with the municipality of Apiro. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was damaged by fire and subsequently rebuilt, also becoming a stopping point for pilgrims. In 1810, it passed into private hands and was transformed into a farm. Architecture: Exterior: It features an apse with three semicircular apses, embellished with semi-columns and hanging arches. The gabled façade is surmounted by a bell gable. Interior: The interior is divided into three levels: the hall for the faithful, the presbytery (in Gothic style) for the monks, and a crypt below with an altar dating to 1140. A central wall separates the hall from the presbytery, with a dividing wall containing an iconostasis. Luminous Eye Phenomenon: It occurs twice a year (May 25th and July 19th) when a ray of sunlight penetrates a circular "eye" above the apse and illuminates a circle carved on a pillar in the left nave, according to the precise time of the phenomenon (approximately 7:40 AM).
