How a BMW Side Project became the Fastest Land Rover Defender | Green Mamba 2.8i

The Green Mamba project came from a fortunate circumstance - like many other Land Rover projects. It all started in Rosslyn near Pretoria in South Africa, with a large part to play by BMW. At the time, things were going well enough, but the competition was proving to be a challenge, and LR needed something for their V8, which was increasingly proving to be underpowered and very thirsty. Enter BMW and their M88 2.8i engine, and some fortuitous circumstances that led to the Green Mamba. This was a very clever blend of a highly-strung six-cylinder engine from their sports car programme, and the humble old Defender. So, how did it turn out?
