Boxing Day hunts vow to ‘fight’ trail ban as Starmer warned over rural backlash

A traditional Boxing Day hunt took place on the Duke of Beaufort’s estate near Badminton, Gloucestershire, just days after the government announced its intention to ban trail hunting. Thousands watched to see dozens of horses and fox hounds go trail hunting, both near Badminton and at other hunts across England. Opponents of a planned ban have claimed Sir Keir Starmer’s government had “alienated rural people”. Provisions for a ban on trail hunting are included in the government’s animal welfare strategy, which was published on Monday.
