The archaeological site of Veleia, the Roman city in the province of Piacenza, excavated since the 18th century, is now the subject of new excavations, uncovering new structures untouched by previous investigations. It enjoyed great fame under the Bourbons of Parma, just as the Bourbons of Naples followed Pompeii and Herculaneum in the same years. It is the site of exceptional finds, such as the 12 statues of the Giulio Claudia family now at the Pilotta and the Tabula Alimenta Traianea, the largest bronze inscription of the ancient world.
