Texas State Railroad

Welcome to the Texas State Railroad, one of the most unique heritage railroads in America. Built by prison labor in the late 1800s, the railroad connected the East Texas Iron Works at Rusk with the state prison system's timber operations near Palestine. Today, the Texas State Railroad preserves that history while offering visitors a chance to experience steam-era railroading in the Piney Woods of East Texas. In this video, we'll explore the history of the railroad, the locomotives and equipment that helped build its legacy, and the people who worked to preserve this important piece of Texas history.
