Reimagining traditional Japanese folk songs (min’yō) through global rhythms, the Tokyo-based 12-piece blends elements of cumbia, salsa, afrobeat and beyond into a vibrant, border-crossing sound. Rooted in the band’s deep affection for min’yō, the album celebrates the richness of this tradition and its ability to connect across cultures and generations. “Shigesa Bushi” features Saya Asakura, a renowned Japanese singer-songwriter and min’yō artist known for winning national competitions, bringing a vibrant and expressive energy to the performance. Inspired by afrobeat and highlife legends, the arrangement expands the song into a dynamic, groove-driven sound. From Japan With Love also features guest appearances by Chitose Hajime and Saya Asakura, and will be released via Blue Note Records in North America.
