Wael Hallaq (Avalon Foundation Professor in the Humanities, MESAAS, Columbia University) discusses his new book Reforming Modernity: Ethics and the New Human in the Philosophy of Abdurrahman Taha with Islam Dayeh (Assistant Professor, Freie Universität Berlin) and Sami Al-Daghistani (Convener; Postdoc Fellow, MF/Associate Faculty, BISR/Research Scholar, MEI, Columbia University). Opening remarks by Liv Ingeborg Lied (Director, MF CASR). Reforming Modernity explores intellectual and philosophical thought of one of the most significant philosophers in the Islamic world since the colonial period. The book sheds light on the past and more recent intellectual currents in Islamic thought and put forwards a formidable critique of Western and Islamic modernities.
