This summer we've covered birth after birth in Punch's troop's baby rush, and all the zoo's announcements ended the same way: mother and infant, healthy, with nothing more to add. The latest announcement doesn't end that way. The zoo announces a new birth at Monkey Mountain, describes the mother and infant as "appearing" to be in good condition, and asks for something we haven't seen in any previous announcements this season: observe in silence, because the placenta hasn't been expelled yet. In this video, we explain what retained placenta is in primates, why silence is a real part of veterinary care, and what differentiates this announcement from all the previous ones about the baby rush.
