मेहरानगढ़ किले की मानव बलि की कहानी यहाँ के एक निवासी - राजाराम मेघवाल ने आगे आकर स्वेच्छा से बलिदान देने की पेशकश की। उनकी एकमात्र शर्त यह थी कि उनके परिवार को हमेशा के लिए सहायता दी जाए। इस प्रकार, जोधपुर किले के निर्माण से पहले उन्हें जीवित ही दफना दिया गया। मेहरानगढ़ किला जिसको मेहरान किले के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। इस किले को 1459 में राव जोधा द्वारा जोधपुर में बनवाया गया था। यह किला देश के सबसे बड़े किलों में से एक है और 410 फीट ऊंची पहाड़ी की चोटी पर स्थित है। मेहरानगढ़ किला विशाल दीवारों द्वारा संरक्षित है। इस किले का प्रवेश द्वार एक पहाड़ी के ऊपर है जो बेहद शाही है। किले में सात द्वार हैं जिनमें विक्ट्री गेट, फतेह गेट, भैरों गेट, डेढ़ कामग्रा गेट, फतेह गेट, मार्टी गेट और लोहा गेट के नाम शामिल है। ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Entry to the fort is gained through a series of seven gates. The most famous of the gates are: Jai Pol ("Gate of Victory"), built by Maharaja Man Singh in 1806 to celebrate his victory in a war with Jaipur and Bikaner. Fateh Pol, built to celebrate a victory over the Mughals in 1707; Gopal Pol, it is the second Pol after Fateh Pol. Dedh Kangra Pol, which still bears the scars of bombardment by cannonballs; Amruti Pol, it is in between Dedh Kangra Pol and Loha Pol. Loha Pol, which is the final gate into the main part of the fort complex. Immediately to the left are the handprints (sati marks) of the ranis and some princesses, who had committed Sati over the years after death of their husband.
