Baran Kok im Interview: "Als ich ungeoutet war hätte ich gehofft irgendwer würde sowas machen“

"Splish splash, go to the toilet and almost f**k him" – a line that's hard to avoid this summer. Baran Kok's song "Herr Officer" is on constant repeat on TikTok, and it's being shouted along to at festivals. What sounds like just another viral hit to many is a taboo-breaking act for others – and apparently exactly what Baran Kok wants. Before his performance at Splash! (July 3rd), we talked to him about musical influences, gratitude, coming out – and what his music evokes in others. Baran Kok provokes. His tracks break one of the toughest unspoken rules in rap: You can't be gay. At least not openly. At least not if you want to be taken seriously. That's the prevailing logic – which Baran ignores. Or rather: confronts. But actually, he's just doing what rap has always done – ruffle feathers, push boundaries, provoke. With punchlines that aren't meant to be liked. With a voice, which demands more space. Instagram Musikexpress:   / musikexpress_magazin   Baran Kok: https://www.instagram.com/baranskok/?... https://www.instagram.com/baranskok/?...
