هل يسوع يعترف أنه بشر في يوحنا 7: 18؟ وهل ابراهيم كان مسلما؟ الردّ على الشيخ خضر - الجزء الثاني

In the second part of my response to Sheikh Khader, I address a series of claims he made about the Christian faith. First, he claims that Abraham was a Muslim. Sheikh Khader seems to be confusing the shared intellectual belief among the three Abrahamic religions—that God is one—with the religion itself. If Sheikh Khader defines Islam as the belief in one God, then yes, Abraham was a Muslim. However, if you define Islam as a religion, then he was not a Muslim because the Islamic religion did not exist before the seventh century CE. Sheikh Khader fails to define what he means by Islam and uses the term in more than one sense within the same sentence. This is fundamentally problematic, even more so than Sheikh Khader's absurd claim. Abraham is a figure whose stories are mostly mythical, and if he existed historically, he most likely believed in polytheism, even if he pledged allegiance to a specific Canaanite deity. The bigger problem is that, according to this logic, I don't need to believe in the prophethood of Muhammad to convert to Islam. It is enough for me to believe that God is one, and I believe that God is one as a Christian, so there is no need for Sheikh Khader to preach Islam to me. Using religion to control history is a despicable practice. Secondly, Sheikh Khader claims that Jesus in John 7:18 claims to be human. I read all of John 7 and 8 to study the context of this statement by Jesus, Jesus's claim about himself, and his call to the people. Sheikh Khader quotes verses and sayings in which the Prophet Muhammad calls people to follow God, but he does not engage in any real interpretive activity of the Gospel of John at all. Rather, by drawing parallels between Muhammad's words and Jesus's words, he demonstrates that Jesus's claims about himself are nothing like Muhammad's claims about himself. I offer an in-depth reading of most of John 7 and 8, and how this passage reveals the person and identity of Christ. The specific context of this long passage is mission and glorification. What does Jesus mean by being sent by the Father? And what does Jesus mean by glorifying the Father and the Father glorifying him? In Sheikh Khader's quotation, Jesus says that the source of his teaching is God, and this is his prophetic role. There is no problem with that. Continuing our reading of John 7, we see Jesus defending his messianic role, claiming in verse 29, "I know him because I am from him, and he sent me." This suggests that Jesus' relationship with God is not one of simply hearing a word, but rather of coming from a place of dwelling within God. Then, in verse 33, he says that he "goes to the one who sent him." Thus, Jesus' relationship is one of dwelling with God before his human existence, and he will return to dwell in God after his human existence. From verse 37 onward, Sheikh Khader's problem lies in defining Jesus in John 7 as merely a prophet. Jesus borrows from prophetic literature the idea of water flowing from the temple to heal the whole earth in the messianic time, at the coming of the Day of the Lord. In verses 37 and 38, Jesus claims that those who come to him receive the waters of life, and that from Jesus (not from the temple) flow rivers of water of life. A simple exploration of the prophetic literature of the Old Testament reveals the problematic nature of what Jesus says here. He calls people to himself, just as Jehovah calls people to himself in that prophetic literature. If the source there is Jehovah's new presence in the temple, then the source of the water of life here in John is Jesus himself. I offer a careful reading of the rest of the passage in John 7 and 8 in the video (and I don't quote a single verse as Sheikh Khader does). But this is sufficient for describing the video. I conclude with the idea that Jesus says he wants to glorify the Father and then says that the Father's will is to glorify Jesus. For example, in 8:54, Jesus says, "My Father is the one who glorifies me," and then he delivers the bombshell that shatters Sheikh Khader's interpretation of John's thought in 8:58, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." So there is a transition from Jesus' prophetic role to Jesus' messianic role to Jesus' claim of being in complete agreement with God. Jesus is greater than Moses, the giver of the law, and greater than Abraham, the father of faith. Jesus is the center of God's presence and the center of salvation. Sheikh Khader's reading of the New Testament (or rather, his failure to read it) is regrettable. He may reject the claims of Christianity, but at the very least, he should engage seriously with the sacred Christian texts and the teachings of the early apostles, and not adopt a deceptive approach to our theological ideas, even if he disagrees with them.
