The image at 20:33-20:43 does NOT show Dr. Krukenberg, but rather Brigadier General Joachim Ziegler, commander of the 11th Division "Nordland," and at 22:99-22:25 Hermann Priess (T-Div). Please excuse the errors, but these images are sometimes labeled as Krukenberg, and I, like an idiot, fell for it. During the course of the Second World War, the German side increasingly raised foreign divisions to at least partially compensate for the dramatic German losses on the Eastern Front. In February 1945, a division composed of French volunteers was also formed, though its origins date back to 1941. The video illuminates the history of this large unit, from the Legion of French Volunteers Against Bolshevism (Légion des Volontaires Français contre le Bolchévisme) through the French SS Volunteer Regiment, the subsequent SS Sturm-Brigade France, to the 33rd Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS "Charlemagne" (French No. 1), which was shattered in Pomerania in early 1945. Its remnants, purely by chance, ended up in Berlin at the end of April for the final battle, where the last French defenders of the government district also perished.
