Coalitions EXPLAINED | How Multi-Party-Systems get to a majority

Multi-party systems are confusing. How do you form a majority with so many different political parties and ideologies? The answer is Coalitions! But how are they formed and how do they work? Let's explain! #Politics #Europe #Socialism #Conservative #Liberal #Dating #Marriage #Relationship #America #Germany #EuropeanUnion #EU #Animation TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Intro 00:20 Election Night 01:13 Phase 1: Dating (Exploratory Talks) 01:59 Phase 2: Engagement (Coalition Negotiations) 03:17 Phase 3: Marriage (Official Inauguration) 03:40 Phase 4: Married Life (Coalition Government) 04:57 Sportsmanship & Exclusion 05:40 End Card ----------------------------------- WANNA BUY ME A COFFEE? Thank you very very much! ----------------------------------- FOOTNOTE: While common, not every Multi-Party System practices coalitions in the way that I describe here. One notable alternative is the "confidence and supply" model, which you may know from Canada or the UK. In those systems, some members of the opposition support the government with their votes to keep it in power. But unlike the yellow party in my video, they do not join the government with ministers! So they're not helping to actively run the country. They still sit in opposition. However, the government does rely on their votes to stay in power and get anything passed, which can be a way to pressure it into adopting some of your policies! To use a metaphor: If a coalition counts as a serious relationship, a confidence and supply-deal is like a situationship with commitment-issues... ----------------------------------- CREDITS: Most images were hand-drawn by me, Lucas Bender, in the Sketchbook-App and animated in DaVinci Resolve.
