I think it suits Kassadin's identity the most and helps him reach his spikes. I might cover other setups in the future on my channel. Items Rod of Ages is an item that should always be build in my opinion. There are glasscannon versions of Kassadin but i think ROA is the best one to build first. Because i go ROA, i also prioritize defensive boots. To complement the HP from ROA. after that I'll be building a Tear item. Either Seraphs or Muramana. I always try to base on a tear. early before i complete ROA to keep it stacking. Muramana is great in comps where your team needs physical damage. Otherwise going AP is the best with Malignance and Seraphs. Seraphs is an item you should always build no matter if you did decide to go Muramana or not. after these decisions/items i will prioritize defensive options.
