According to The Telegraph and GB News on the 29th, local councils under the City of London issued orders to remove air conditioners installed in homes, including apartments, and officials have begun enforcement. The basis for this action is a regulation that requires air conditioners to be used only after all other cooling methods, such as opening windows or turning on fans, have been exhausted. While the UK does not require building permits for air conditioner installation, prior permission is required for conservation areas designated to protect regions of architectural or historical value. There are 28 such conservation areas designated in London alone. The Telegraph reported that, in fact, a resident of Camden in North London, identified as "A," received an order to permanently remove two air conditioners installed in their home. Camden Borough Council officials pointed out that there were no ceiling fans, deeming that A had installed the air conditioners without a legitimate reason. Authorities reportedly ordered the removal of the air conditioner while telling Mr. A to "open the first-floor windows and balcony doors to ventilate." When Mr. A expressed concerns about potential crime, officials reportedly told him to "close the windows at night." Mr. A was only allowed to use the air conditioner after proving that the building was equipped with eco-friendly facilities, such as solar panels. Regarding this, former UK Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho called it "completely absurd," pointing out that "we must break away from the pessimistic carbon-neutrality mindset that assumes Britain alone remains stuck in a dark age and cannot enjoy the conveniences of modern civilization that are taken for granted in other countries." On the 28th, temperatures in Brandenburg, Germany, rose to 41.7 degrees Celsius, while the Czech Republic and Poland recorded 41.1 and 40.5 degrees, respectively.
