The second program in the series ARCHIVES OF THE LGBTQI+ RIO DE JANEIRO SCENE is dedicated to the pioneering entrepreneur of the Rio de Janeiro gay nightlife scene, EDUARDO GONZALEZ, who granted RODRIGO FAOUR this interview at age 86, in February 2021. Even without being gay, he deserves all the honors for having invested in a business that for a long time was considered something that went against "morality and good customs". He was one of the partners of the legendary ALFREDÃO in Praça do Lido, opened in 1960, the first gay nightclub in Rio, frequented not yet exclusively by gay and lesbian people, and later the owner of LA CUEVA, opened in 1964, possibly the oldest gay nightclub in Brazil still in operation. In the interview, he recounts the immense prejudice suffered by his gay clients, especially in the 60s and 70s, who were not yet well understood by the society of that time, and the harsh treatment his establishments received from the police, particularly his second home, La Cueva, during the military dictatorship, persecuted by the infamous police chief Padilha.
