NEW FOREST WALK at SMUGGLER'S ROAD & BURLEY (WITH SPECIAL GUEST NIC of WALKING THE WYRD) (4K)
In this episode of my series “Walks in the New Forest”, I take a 4 mile linear walk (basically 2 miles “there & back” ) from Smuggler's Road (near Ringwood) to Ridley Wood. As usual I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan and in addition I am joined by a lovely lady called Nic who has her own Youtube Channel called “Walking the Wyrd”. A slightly unusual walk when compared to previous walks on my channel as although I was filming a “countryside Walk”, I was also acting as a guide for Nic, who was filming a video ( about an 19th century local Smuggler called Lovey Warne) for her own channel. I parked my car at the (free) Forestry England car park which is located to the South of Smuggler's Road, on the Ringwood to Burley Road. Initially, I took a small detour West to check out a New Forest Boundary stone situated on top of a Bronze Age Barrow and then on to a house called Knaves Ash (which was once the home of Lovey Warne). I then headed North East along Smuggler's Road (which indeed was an old Smuggler's track) across Vales Moor and up to Vereley Hill. Crossing over the Burley to Picket Post road, I continued North East, over Mill Lawn Brook, on to Ridley Wood (where there was once a regular Smuggler's Market in days gone by). I then retraced my steps back to the car and drove a short distance to the village of Burley to visit the Church of St John the Baptist and The Queens Head pub – both of which have connections with the smuggling “trade” in the past and featured in Nic's video.
