How To Repair Fading Digits in The Fluke 87 Digital Multimeter

If your Fluke 87 industrial Multimeter needs to be repaired, we first recommend sending your Fluke 87 industrial multimeter to the Fluke Service Center. If you are in a time crunch, there's an easy way to fix the fading numbers on your Fluke 87 multimeter's display. The Fluke 87 Industrial Multimeter display is connected to the circuit board with elastomer strips. If your digital multimeter is exposed to corrosive or humid environments, overtime, the elastomer strips might lose contact with the circuit board. By carefully pulling off the display, you can access the elastomer strips. In the older models of the Fluke 87, they contain a rubber strip and 4 snaps (2 on each side) along the circuit board. Once you remove the display and the elastomer strip, clean the circuit board contacts with a non-abrasive eraser or alcohol on the circuit board and reassemble. WARNING: be very careful when removing the display from the Fluke 87 because the snaps that hold the display down are made of plastic. On the newer Fluke 87 Industrial Multimeter models, the elastomer strips have been redesigned to prevent this issue from occurring. In case this issue does occur, remove the elastomer strips, clean the circuit board and reassemble.
