Pantera - The Underground In America & (Reprise) Sandblasted Skin cover by Zisis Marangianos
Whew is it hot in Greece this week! Hence shirtless. A little less than two months ago, I tried this pair of monster songs on bass; now it's time for a guitar cover with my newest addition: the Dean ML 79 F :D It's the first guitar I've bought in 10 years, and despite some drawbacks here and there... MAN am I glad I did :D Copy-paste from bass video follows: These songs are unique in that both the guitar and the bass tune their thickest string down to an octave in relation to the next string, so G-G-C-F-A-D at 425 Hz for the guitar and, correspondingly, G-G-C-F at 425 Hz for the bass... and this back in 1996! There's a video snippet in "3 Watch It Go" where Dime "modifies" a guitar to accomodate the beast string that he needed for the two songs. Who knows what Rex did? Probably just got the thickest string he could find at that time. End of copy-paste from bass video :P ################ EDIT: Looks like I was completely wrong about the guitar. The Underground/Sandblasted guitar is the one Dime receives at around the 32 minute mark of the video, with the Snakeskin finish and a tune-o-matic bridge. A video by Ola Englund where he went to Dime's house and saw his guitar collection, shows that the Underground/Sandblasted guitar was at some point modified to have fine tuners. According to Grady Champion, the low string on that one was a .056 gauge. So yeah, still not the ideal string for such low tuning. Turns out the guitar that Dime "modified" in "3 Watch It Go" is a different one routed for a Floyd Rose, shown right after the Underground/Sandblasted one. ################ As was the case for the bass, I would've never been able to find that thick of a string for guitar due to my location, unless I put an 080 gauge bass string on it. On the other hand, this guitar is equipped with a Floyd Rose bridge, thus an 080 would definitely have some undesired effects, such as not being able to clamp down both lowest strings at the nut, and possibly not being able to fit the string into the saddle. Thus, I had to resort to pulling the saddle as far back as possible. The lowest string is of course super floppy, but at least the guitar wears 11-49 strings, so it's not as bad as a 10-46 or something :P A few audio glitches throughout the video were unavoidable, since I'm still on old hardware. A new rig is coming though, so this is hopefully the last video that I shoot on this goddamned laptop. Mistakes here and there. Also, squeal fail at the end, whoops :/ That said, enjoy :D To the copyright holder: I'm only using the songs "The Underground In America" and "(Reprise) Sandblasted Skin" as a backing tracks, and for the purpose of entertainment (or not, depending on the viewer and how they judge my playing).
