99% Of Poker Players Make This MISTAKE! [Ace High Flops]
When playing tournament poker, a common spot that comes up and is often misplayed is when you are in position as the preflop aggressor on ace-high flops. Many poker players think that these situations should be a mandatory continuation bet. However, thanks to the PeakGTO poker solver and Jonathan Little’s coaching, you can now learn the correct game theory optimal (GTO) approach to these tricky situations and stop being part of the 99% of poker players that make this mistake! In general, ace-high boards lead to a very high frequency of continuation bets by the in position preflop aggressor. The preflop aggressor has stronger overall range connectivity on these flops, along with a much stronger nut advantage. They simply have more combinations of nutted hands compared to the big blind. However, when the flop contains an ace and two low cards that create straight possibilities, the in position player will check at a much higher frequency versus the big blind. On these boards, the big blind actually has the nut advantage because they will be defending with more of the low connected hands that make straights. These types of hands should not be in the preflop raiser’s range, especially if they are in early position. As a result, the in position player cannot bet these flops as often because they no longer have the nut advantage. When deciding on bet sizes on ace-high flops, it is important to understand how dynamic the board is. If you have a rainbow flop with no straight or flush draws available, then continuation betting at a very high frequency with a small sizing is often the correct approach. These flops will not change much on later streets, which allows the in position aggressor to bet small with almost their entire range. However, if the flop contains both straight and flush draws, such as As-Ts-5c , then using a larger bet size of roughly two thirds of the pot becomes the optimal GTO strategy almost always. These boards are dynamic, meaning many turn cards can change the nuts. Because of this, the in position player should use a larger sizing to charge the big blind for their draws whilst still maintaining the range and nut advantage. 0:00 - Playing Ace-High Flops In Position 0:44 - Poker Tournament Masterclass Powered By PeakGTO 2:06 - Playing Ace-High Boards - General Tips 3:05 - 50bb Lojack vs Big Blind - As-6h-4d 3:43 - 50bb Lojack vs Big Blind - Ac-9d-7d 5:03 - 50bb Lojack vs Big Blind - As- Th-5h 5:34 - 50bb Lojack vs Big Blind - Ah-Kd-Qc 6:04 - 50bb Lojack vs Big Blind - Ah-Kd-Qc 8:25 - Jonathan Little Drills Ace-High Flops With PeakGTO 10:56 - ELO Score Explained On Poker Tournament Masterclass 11:37 - Summary Of Ace-High Flops Jonathan Little analyzes live poker hands from TV poker shows such as Poker After Dark, Hustler Casino Live, The Lodge Poker Club & PokerGO.
