Babam Öyle Derdi, Biz Öyle Gördük - Ahıska / Şavşat Türküsü (Ertürk Demirci)
"Don't bow to injustice, protect the oppressed / That's what my father used to say, that's what we learned..." We present this magnificent poem, penned by our contemporary poet and dear friend Ertürk Demirci, born in Şavşat, Artvin, set to music in the style of an Ahıska/Şavşat folk song. This work is not just a folk song; it is the voice of an ancient friendship and cultural heritage that has stretched with an unwavering bond since 1998. I owe him a noble thank you for his humility and happiness when I wanted to set his poems to music. We are grateful to our dear friend Ertürk Demirci, who is celebrating his 50th year in his profession and will be retiring this year, for all his contributions to Turkish culture and literature. THAT'S WHAT MY FATHER USED TO SAY, THAT'S WHAT WE LEARNED Don't bow to injustice, protect the oppressed That's what my father used to say, that's what we learned. The sun shines, melting the snow on the mountains That's what my father used to say, that's what we saw. Reach out to the fallen, lift them up Fill the cup of love early It is the rain and the flood that leave their mark on the mountains That's what my father used to say, that's what we saw. Don't covet anyone's possessions Always keep your heart safe Let your words be fitting for your tongue and lips That's what my father used to say, that's what we saw. Don't break hearts, don't frown Don't cut off greetings from your friends and family Don't press mountains on a dried-up wound That's what my father used to say, that's what we saw. Rabatli, walk straight, don't stray from your path Don't cross mountains without seeing the light Don't chase after someone who doesn't love you That's what my father used to say, that's what we saw.
