Considered a historic milestone for mobility in Salvador and the Metropolitan Region (RMS), the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) received authorization to begin construction in June 2024. In July, the purchase of electrical equipment and 40 trains in partnership with the Government of Mato Grosso was formalized. The VLT will have approximately 40 km of extension, with 42 stops. • Section 1: Ilha de São João – Calçada: 16.66 km; 19 stops between Ilha de São João and Calçada + Calçada Station - Calçada - Comércio Extension with 3.58 km of single permanent track. • Section 2: Paripe – Águas Claras: 9.20 km; 8 stops between Paripe and Águas Claras • Section 3: Águas Claras – Piatã: 10.52 km. 9 stops between Águas Claras and Piatã The Light Rail Transit (VLT) will be physically and operationally integrated with other city transportation systems, including the Salvador and Lauro de Freitas Metro System (SMSL), at two points: Águas Claras and Bairro da Paz. Acquisition of trains from the state of Mato Grosso: The 40 trains acquired from the state of Mato Grosso have already been transported to the CAF factory, located in Hortolândia (SP), (learn more details here), where they will undergo a technical and operational re-establishment process, to later be sent to Salvador (BA), in the second half of 2025, where dynamic tests, commissioning and issuance of acceptance certificates will be carried out.
