Desiree Perez, CEO of Roc Nation, Honored with the Community Quarterback Award | Gridiron Gala 2022

CEO of Roc Nation, Desiree Perez, accepted the 2022 Community Quarterback Award at United Way New York’s 29th Annual Gridiron Gala for her contributions toward advancing social justice initiatives. Angela Rye, Principal and CEO of IMPACT Strategies, gave Desiree Perez a warm introduction, spotlighting Perez’s accomplishments and how she pours her heart into everything she does. Rye also recited notes of praise from executives who work alongside Perez. One such quote from Until Freedom Co-Founder, Tamika Mallory, stated, “When you call Desiree, she picks up the phone even with all she manages every day. She’s always prepared to move mountains. Des isn’t just a powerful, brilliant woman of color CEO, she’s a personal mentor to many of us and someone who deeply cares about our people.” In her acceptance speech, Perez thanked the individuals who use their position for good, from donors, lawyers and influencers alike. She went on to talk about the importance of coming together to stand against hate, with compassion at the core of enacting change. When discussing Roc Nation and its partners' work tackling ongoing social justice issues, Perez said, “We stand up and we defend. In the face of hate and in the face of injustice, we’re going to stand up and we’re going to be there and that’s because those are our core values. It’s what we believe in. It’s who we are.
