In Ibn Taymiyyah's Collected Fatwas, Volume 1, page 143, he says: "Seeking intercession is only for those who seek intercession with God through faith in Muhammad and following him (and here God commanded us to love his family, so whom do we follow? We follow the Quran). This seeking intercession through faith in him and obedience to him is obligatory upon everyone, inwardly and outwardly, and it is…" explicitly. Thus, Ibn Taymiyyah accepts the first means and accepts the second means. Therefore, we find that Allamah Al-Albani, in his book "Intercession: Its Types and Rulings," Muhammad Eid Al-Abbasi, Maktabat Al-Ma'arif, on page 32, states this. O God, I ask You by my love for Muhammad and my faith.’ And we have that whoever loves Ali has loved the Messenger, and whoever loves them (meaning Hassan and Hussein) has loved the Messenger, and whoever loves Fatima has loved the Messenger. Then why go to different directions? This is the text of the Holy Quran: ‘Say, “I do not ask you for any reward for it except affection for [my] near relatives.”’ You might ask, ‘Who said that affection for near relatives is a good deed and a righteous act?’ He said: ‘And whoever commits a good deed - We will increase for him good therein.’ (Ash-Shura: 23). So what is affection for near relatives?” Yes, near relatives. The Messenger, without a doubt, and this is an obligation upon all Muslims, is to love the Ahlul-Bayt (the Prophet's family). Now, I want to enter the holy shrines of the Imams of the Ahlul-Bayt. I want to enter the presence of the Messenger of God and say to him, "O Messenger of God, I ask You, by my love for Your Messenger, to grant me such and such." Why does he stand here and there saying, "It's polytheism, polytheism, polytheism! Ask God!" Where does this come from? I mean, truly, I have nothing to say except, do these people really know anything about the Quran, or not? And they accuse others of not making the Quran the authority, of not paying attention to the Quran, of not having the Quran as their primary reference, and so on. It becomes clear that all they have of the Quran is the wording of the Quran; they don't know its jurisprudence. "Then do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?" (Surat Muhammad: 24). Now you tell me that the common Shi'a ask directly from the Imams. Now, God willing... Next, we will discuss whether it is permissible to ask the Imams, whether it is permissible to ask the Messenger of God, or not. That is another discussion. For now, we are discussing matters on which there is consensus, namely, that we can supplicate to God through our love for the Prophet's family. I don't believe there is any disagreement that Ali is from his family, that Fatima is from his family, that Hasan is from his family, that Husayn is from his family, and that Sajjad, Baqir, Sadiq, Kadhim, Ridha, Jawad, Hadi, Askari, and the last of them, whom we also believe to be from his family, are from his family, because he said: "The Mahdi is from my family, from the descendants of Fatima."
