Creating a Savanna for Cattle, Wildlife, and Better Grazing. Silvopasture part 1.

In this video, I share our long-term plan to increase the carrying capacity of our farm by creating silvopastures and savannas from selected areas of our woods. I explain what areas of the farm I'm considering, how I'm deciding which trees to keep and which ones to remove, and why tree selection is an important part of building a productive grazing system. I also discuss the native grasses and forbs I hope to establish beneath the remaining trees to create healthy pasture while improving wildlife habitat and soil health. Our goal is to build a low-input cattle operation by producing more forage, extending the grazing season, and making better use of every acre of the farm. If you're interested in rotational grazing, South Poll cattle, regenerative agriculture, silvopasture, native grasses, and practical farm management, I hope you'll follow along as we continue improving this farm in south-central Missouri. 👉 I'd love to hear from you!
