Let’s explore the depths of it in the video. Anakin finds himself breathing heavily. Another nightmare, another sleepless night. Every time it was the same thing over and over again. Padme is giving birth; she screams out Anakin’s name, and then she dies. Normally, he’d pace back and forth across the room, but as he looks at his wife sleeping peacefully beside him, he decides to take a walk in the Jedi temple. Little does he know that decision will change the fate of the galaxy forever. The temple feels quiet, the sound of trees in the indoor garden rustles gently under artificial air. They should give the man some semblance of peace, but peace does not come. Last time Anakin had visions like this ihs mother died. He can’t let the same thing happen this time, not to Padme. Anakin: What am I going to do? He exhales shakily and keeps walking. The polished temple floors reflect the dim blue lighting overhead while the distant hum of Coruscant traffic filters faintly through the walls. His thoughts spiral so deeply that he barely notices where he’s going until his boot catches against the edge of a meditation platform. Anakin: Oh, kriff! Sorry! Sitting cross-legged atop the platform is Aayla Secura. Her eyes are already open, and there’s no irritation on her face whatsoever. Aayla: Relax, Skywalker. If a Jedi can’t meditate through one exhausted knight stumbling around the temple at midnight, then they probably aren’t very good at meditating. Anakin: Still, I didn’t mean to disturb you. Aayla: You look troubled. Nightmares? Anakin: Something like that. I keep seeing someone die. Aayla: Someone important to you. Anakin doesn’t answer, and that silence tells her enough. She watches him for another second before speaking again. Aayla: Senator Amidala? Anakin: What? How did you- Aayla: Anakin, please tell me you didn’t actually think your marriage was secret. Anakin: ...my marriage? Aayla can’t help smiling slightly at his expression. Aayla: Your marriage to Senator Amidala, yes. Anakin: You know? Aayla: Most of the Order knows. Anakin’s eyes remain wide as they shift back and forth. His eyes give off a look of bewilderment and absolute horror as if he’s a ack dog caught in a trap. Aayla looks at him with a creeping smirk before she finally just erupts Aayla: laughs Anakin, you and the senator are skilled at many things, but when it comes to keeping a Sabbac face well…well, you are bad at it. The two of you look at each other like characters in a romance holo. Honestly, the only people who thought this was still hidden were apparently you and Senator Amidala. Anakin: Obi-Wan knows? Aayla: chuckles Obi-Wan probably knew before the wedding happened. Anakin: This is humiliating. Aayla: If it makes you feel better, most Jedi aren’t against it. Master Yoda disapproves because attachment is attachment, and Master Windu disapproves because he’s Master Windu. Everyone else just ignores it. Some of us actually have a betting pool going as to how long you've been married. Master Mundi, Master Plo, and Master Tiin say 1 year; I, Fisto, and Obi-Wan say 3 years. Speaking of which, if you don’t mind me prying, how long have you and Senator Amidala been…? Anakin: three years. Aayla: HA! I won ten credits. Anakin: chuckles Yeah, nice job. Wait... nobody reported me? Nobody said anything? Aayla: The Republic was falling apart, Anakin. The Order had larger concerns than whether you married a senator you were obviously in love with. Besides, contrary to what you believe, the order is not a dictatorship or a hive mind, or at least we don’t mean to be. Most of us have your back. Aayla winces and lets out a sigh as soon as the words leave her lips. Though she uttered them in sincerity, she couldn’t help but think about the times when that was not the case, leaving him in the dark about the Rako Hardeen plan, the embarrassment in their handling of Ahsoka. It was easy for her to say. She had been part of the arguments and near shouting matches that occurred for weeks on afterward, the times Obi-Wan tried to keep the room calm while maintaining a silent fury over the council’s treatment of Anakin. #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
