Tom Rush Interview (10/15/25)
Tom Rush is an American folk and blues singer, guitarist and songwriter. He began performing in 1961 while a student at Harvard. Tom picked up a weekly gig at Club 47, a folk music coffee house, which has over the years become the launching pad for many an artist. Tom would release 2 albums before graduating. Early recordings included Southern and Appalachian folk, older country songs, Woody Guthrie ballads and acoustic guitar blues. Signed to Elektra, Tom would record 3 albums, the last, The Circle Game, may have been the catalyst for the singer/songwriter era. In the early 80’s Tom would reinvigorate the Club 47 concept, showcasing established artists alongside newcomers and took the show on the road. Tom has recorded and released 17 albums over his career including, live and the best of. His latest album, Gardens Old, Flowers New, was released last year. My guest currently resides in Southern Maine and is still performing live.
