Kohat Tunnel Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan

The Kohat Tunnel, also known as the Pak-Japan Friendship Tunnel, is a 1.9-kilometer (1.18-mile) highway tunnel that goes under the Khigana Mountains, connecting the Kohat District and Dara Adam Khel Tehsil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. This tunnel carries traffic along the N-55 National Highway (Indus Highway) and offers a quicker route compared to the older Kohat Pass road. Construction of the tunnel started in 1999 with the help of Japan's Economic Cooperation Fund and it opened in June 2003. The tunnel reduces travel time through the Kohat Pass by about 20 minutes and allows larger vehicles to pass, which was difficult before due to sharp bends on the old road.
