For this new episode of our road trip in Morocco aboard our converted Opel Vivaro van (which you know as Victor!), we're taking you along the magnificent but surprising Atlantic coast. Our journey begins at the gates of Oualidia, an incredible stop where wild nature and local history collide. After exploring the mysterious mausoleum of Sidi Karam Daïf on the beach, we settle down in the heart of the famous Oualidia lagoon. Between birdwatching, crossing salt marshes, discovering crops protected by reed windbreaks, and admiring the cliffs sculpted by the ocean, we thought we'd found the perfect spot for an impromptu picnic overlooking the sea... but campervan adventures always hold surprises, and our night took a completely unexpected turn when the police knocked on our door in the middle of the night! After being evicted and forced to retrace our steps along the completely wrecked road in total darkness, searching for a new vantage point, François takes the wheel for the technical and environmental segment. We make a crucial stop to closely examine a seawater desalination plant. How does this vital water supply system for Moroccan villages operate? What is the impact of solar panels, and what major ecological challenges does this pose for the region's future? A concrete and necessary immersion to understand the reality of water management in certain regions, in an eco-responsible way. Finally, we hit the road again towards Safi. While the industrial zone and its factories didn't immediately appeal to us, we couldn't pass up the legendary Giant Tajine! But things took a turn for the worse when we tried to explore the wild cliffs just north of the city: Victor nearly got stuck in the Moroccan sand... The result? An intense session of mandatory reversing on a narrow track! Thankfully, the reward awaits at the end of the trail: a breathtaking panorama of monumental rock formations.
