Hikes and Walks Around Richmond, VA: The Buttermilk Trail

This video gives a quick POV walk-through snapshot of the James River Buttermilk Trail. The trail runs along the south bank of the James River. This is an easy hike but a challenging mountain bike trail. It's very scenic. The foliage is like a jungle but the path is very clear. It's hard to imagine that you are in the heart of the city. On the south side of the trail is Riverside Drive. On the north side is a railroad track. However, with the thick foliage, most of the time, you do not see Riverside Drive or the track. You can hike it as an out-and-back (2.5 miles each way). However, most folks combine the North Bank Trail and the Buttermilk Trail to create a 6.9 mile loop walk. If you have good stamina, hike around Belle Isle, Brown's Island, and the Potterfield Bridge while you are at it. I think this is a "must do" Richmond hike.
